Hunting

Marsh Bay Resort is located within Ontario Wildlife Management Unit 28.  Our black bear hunts extend into Wildlife Management Unit 40.  Maps of the Wildlife Management Units ("W.M.U.") can be found on the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources website.

Bear Hunting

The black bear hunting season opens August 15 for Ontario residents and non-residents and closes October 31.  Marsh Bay Resort is responsible for a 200 square kilometre bear management area.  We begin baiting for bears 2-3 weeks before you arrive to begin hunting.

We offer a bear hunting package at the price of $1400 US per person which includes:

  • a six day hunt
  • baiting before and during your hunt
  • accommodation in one of our housekeeping cottages
  • orientation to our bear management area
  • assistance with skinning your kill
  • freezing of the hide for transport
  • preparation of meat for transport
A non-resident bear hunting license and tag must be obtained from a Service Ontario counter.  There is a Service Ontario counter located conveniently in New Liskeard, 15-20 minutes north of the resort.  The 2011 price for the license and tag is $219.01.  This amount can be paid by Visa, MasterCard, debit or Canadian cash.

American Plan bear hunting packages are available and will be custom tailored to your needs.  Pricing for American Plan packages will be provided on an individual basis.

Moose Hunting

The 2010 moose hunting season opens October 9 for Ontario residents and October 11 for non-residents and closes November 15.

We do not offer a moose hunting package, but all of our cottages can be booked for your moose hunting trip.

Small Game

The hunting season for game birds opens September 15 and generally closes mid-December.  Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse, Sharp-Tailed Grouse, Ptarmigan and Pheasant can all be found in W.M.U. 28 and 40.  We do not offer small game hunting packages but can provide you with accommodation.
